Anomaly

Think of it as something weird, different, or unexpected. Here’s how it relates to science and medicine:

  • Normal: Most of the time, things in our bodies, or in science, work in a certain way. There’s a pattern.
  • Anomaly: It’s like finding a green apple in a basket full of red ones. Something stands out as unusual.
  • Scientists and doctors pay attention: anomalies can be clues to a problem, or sometimes a new discovery!

Etymology: The Word “Anomaly”

  • It comes from the Greek word “anomolia,” meaning “unevenness” or “irregularity.”

Example: If most people get taller as they grow older, but one person doesn’t, that could be an anomaly doctors would want to investigate.
